Since 2013, Natasha Carter and Steffi Allatt have been putting on Meat Free parties in Manchester alongside Lucy Ironmonger and Alice Woods. Bringing in international talent to the city, the Meat Free parties are events with a cause as a portion of the proceeds are donated to Partisan Collective who support vulnerable migrant women. The party has also been hailed as one of the best techno nights in the city and nominated for best UK club night. Last year, Meat Free teamed up with Resident Advisor for their Alternate Cuts series where they hosted the Manchester leg of the tour, booking Donato Dozzy for the party.
As the resident DJs, Natasha and Steffi play under the name Blasha & Allatt and have now gained an international reputation. Some of their key dates over the last year include No Bounds Festiva, Dockyards Festival, Shelter, House Of God and fabric as well as the upcoming Dimensions Festival and Queen’s Yard Summer Party. Closely working with Ben Sims and his Machine label, the duo provided a track for the Tribology compilation and performed at Machine’s fabric showcase.
Ahead of their set at The Model’s first party at The Cause this Saturday, Blasha & Allatt provide a playlist of their key dancefloor weapons.
Steffi
Kander – Rinse Out
This is probably one of my fave tracks of the minute actually. Kander is comprised of Alexander James & Kane Duffy who run the Abyss label/podcast series in Manchester. These guys are really talented and at the helm of pushing that faster side of techno that I absolutely love. Excited to hear what these guys put out in the future.
Bas Mooy – Bokkenpruik
One of my all-time favourites. It has this inimitable groove that I just don’t get tired of.
Panmella Calix – Tip
This track stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it a few weeks ago, very pacey and Drax-esque. I’m not sure who’s behind the moniker, but I hope we see some more output.
Takaaki Itoh – Killing
Birmingham techno flex! Shout out to Hector Oaks for reissuing this gem.
Nur Jaber – If Only (Dax J Remix)
Absolute killer record. Play at + 8 for maximum effect.
Tasha
Fjaak – Drugs
Can safely say Steffi & myself have both rinsed this over the last few months so maybe it’s time to put it back on the shelf! I can imagine Hardwax would describe this as a ‘very efficient techno tool’.
Skee Mask – Trackheadz
Another killer by Skee Mask. The track has a sort of galloping groove to it. Didn’t expect to hear those beautiful pads come in (around 2 minute 30) at first, but they work beautifully.
Kobosil – 80 KG Hate
I’ve always really rated Kobosil’s individual & label output. He really does have his own sound and this track is no exception.
90 Process – Give Me Dat.
I always find myself picking out a 90 Process track if the crowd needs livening up a bit. File under ‘fail-safe techno’.
Scalameriya – Proxy
Grittiness & Distortion done perfectly.
