Crate Diggers 002: December

Crate Diggers is our new monthly series where we share our favourite wax pick ups of the month. Now that we’ve all bought ourselves some turntables, our addiction to digging for records has begun – even if it’s sometimes confined to the realms of discogs due to our busy schedules. Each month we will share with you our stand out records, where we found them and our favourite track on the release.

DJ Vibes & Wishdokta – Rave Is A Mystery

What started out as a joke after hearing it in one of Mumdance’s hardcore sets toward the end of last year, has turned into an intense love affair. I say intense because the song would be in my head from morning to night and I’d often find myself tapping my feet along to the relentless beat inside my head. Going to see  Mumdance b2b DJ Slipmatt hardcore set at Printworks NYD topped it all off when they played this into the A side of the record and I lost my voice from screaming.

The Prodigy – Wind It Up (Rewound)

Found on a seller’s page for cheap as chips as I was trying to add records to my cart to make up for the £££ postage and package. This record is insane, like any other Prodigy record, ‘Wind It Up’ continues to build and build into this loopy, hardcore-esque melody. Going through a rollercoaster of emotions before it reaches it’s climax, the record has become one of my favourites from the Essex band.

Transparent Sound – No Call From New York

A Helena Hauff special. What I love the most about this record is that the four mixes could be played and released in their own entity. Completely unique and different from each other, there’s an edit of this absolute stomper for any occasion. I have a special memory in my mind of Helena closing one of the stages at Farr on the second night with the Original Acid Mix. This was also the only time I’ve ever managed to do 20,000 steps within the space of a two hour set.

Tribe Of Issachar – Junglist (Social Security Remix)

A stellar remix of a classic jungliest rhythm. Released on Congo Natty’s label, this lesser known remix builds from a broken intro into a bouncy edit filled with halftime beats. Also found in the ‘bargain bin’ on someone’s discogs page for a small £2.

Bodysnatch – Euphony (Just For U London)

The last hour and a bit of Ben UFO and Mumdance’s Rinse FM show released late last year was spectacular. I think I added nearly every single track to my Discogs want list as soon as I was done identifying them. In the midst of all the hardcore and breakbeat tracks was this beautiful, laid-back jungle track with the looping ‘just for you London’ vocals – makes you feel like you somewhat love the city.
